Bill Hoppe: Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said that forward Tage Thompson and defenseman Michael Kesselring were given maintenance days yesterday and are good for tomorrow. Jordan Greenway didn’t skate yesterday for load management reasons and should be good for tonight. Forward Jason Zucker will travel with the team on their road trip. Forward Tyson Kozak is doing well, but needs some more practice time.

Bruce Miles: The Chicago Blackhawks placed forward Frank Nazar on the IR.

Craig Merz: Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski missed his second consecutive game with a lower-body injury and was placed on the IR retroactive to December 20th.

Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier returned to the lineup yesterday after missing 13 games with an upper-body injury.

Sam Nestler: Dallas Stars defenseman Nils Lundkvist and goaltender Jake Oettinger had maintenance days yesterday and are dealing with some minor issues. Lundkvist has a lower-body issue. Both are expected to practice on Tuesday, and coach Glen Gulutzan didn’t seem concerned.

NHL: Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane returned to the lineup last night.

Katie Engleson: Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk practiced with the team for the first time this season.

  • Jameson Olive: Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice on if Tkachuk will be ready to play in the Winter Classic: “As much as we like the spectacle of it and would love him to be part of it and it’d be great for the game to see him out there, the Florida Panthers need him healthy and need him for the rest of the year.”

NHL Rumors: Could There Be Less Trades Than We Think

Jameson Olive: Panthers coach Maurice said that forward Jonah Gadjovich likely won’t return before the Olympics. Defenseman Dmitri Kulikov could possibly return in mid-March.

Maurice: “There’s a reason for that window. Yeah, there’s some guys that have come back earlier, but then there’s a whole bunch of guys that have been longer.”

Zach Dooley: Los Angeles Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper practiced yesterday. He’s not expected to play tonight, but could return for their next game.

Eric Engels: Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach is still recovering from his foot injury and isn’t with the team.

Corey Long: Canadiens forward Jake Evans is out for four to six weeks after taking a knee-on-knee hit from Penguins Justin Brazeau.

Stefen Rosner: New York Islanders coach Patrick Roy said that goaltender Ilya Sorokin will practice today, and then they’ll determine his status for Tuesday.

Peter Baugh: New York Rangers coach Mike Sullivan on Adam Fox: “He’s getting there. He practiced today (at) full capacity. He’ll skate with us tomorrow (at) full capacity. We’ll go from there.”

Peter Baugh: Rangers forward J.T. Miller skated on his own yesterday.

TSN 1200 Ottawa: Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto took part in his first practice since he suffered a lower-body injury on December 4th.

Claire Hanna: Senators coach Travis Green said that forward Pinto and defenseman Tyler Kleven are “both close to playing” and are possibilities for tonight.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Forward Blake Lizotte was activated from the IR.

Seattle Kraken PR: Forward Jared McCann was activated from the IR.

Jeremy Rutherford: St. Louis Blues coach Jim Montgomery on forward Pius Suter: “Not able to practice today, too sore. He’s going to have an MRI later this afternoon, and we’ll have more information for you. Day to day, I would rule him out for tomorrow. Fabbri is going in, Joseph going to go in, too.”

Erik Erlendsson: Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh was placed on the IR. He’s considered more than day-to-day, and they aren’t sure if he’ll be travelling with the team on their West Coast trip.

Benjamin Pierce: Lightning forward Brandon Hagel returned to the lineup last night.

Nick Barden: Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Brandon Carlo was back on the ice this weekend. He had surgery on his foot back on December 3rd, with recovery expected to be a month.

  • Lance Hornby: Carlo is expected to return in the next few days.

NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs, and the Avalanche

Elliotte Friedman: Maple Leafs forward William Nylander missed last night’s game and is day-to-day.

Jeff Paterson: Vancouver Canucks coach Adam Foote on forward Filip Chytil: “Two to three weeks? I see it being less than four, but I don’t know for sure. We have to get him back up to speed, but he’s had a couple of really good weeks which a real good sign. Knowing that he hasn’t had a setback in two weeks is huge. When we believe he is in full shape, then he’ll be able to take some contact.”

Danny Webster: Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel is day-to-day and won’t be in the lineup tonight. He hasn’t been ruled out for Wednesday’s game yet.

Mitchell Clinton: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey is day-to-day.
