Teams calling Hurricanes hinting at an Aho offer sheet
Pierre LeBrun: “According to sources, Carolina got calls from 3 different teams today on Sebastian Aho, hinting at an offer sheet. The ‘Canes told them they would match any offer sheet. Carolina did tell them they would entertain trade conversation. Believe that Habs is among 3 teams who called”
David Pagnotta: There is increased talk that someone could send Sebastian Aho an offer sheet today. ” _IF_ it happens, I suspect AAV would be in $9M-$9.5M range, and of course Aho would have to agree. But will a team go through with it?”
Craig Custance: “Part of the reason you’re seeing so much smoke around Aho is the belief out there that Carolina squeezing him in talks. He’s not arb eligible, so wouldn’t be surprising if they’re offering just a QO or very team friendly long-term deal while they have leverage.”
- Pierre LeBrun: “The belief is that the team offered 8 years x $7.5 M aav and Aho camp countered with 5 years x $9.5 M aav. A one year deal also an option from the team’s perspective. But does Aho get an offer sheet today? Definitely being contemplated. But don’t know if it will actually happen.”
Maroon could be moving on
David Pagnotta: Several teams are talking with Patrick Maroon but a deal is not close. A return to St. Louis hasn’t been ruled out but it sounds like he’ll be playing elsewhere next season.
Jim Matheson: Wonder if the New Jersey Devils would be interested in Maroon again. They were one of the teams interested last offseason.
Schenn in, Girardi out
Joe Smith: The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to be signing defenseman Luke Schenn today.
Dan Girardi’s agent said that he won’t be back in Tampa
