On the Washington Capitals …

Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid Atlantic: Coach Barry Trotz said that defenseman Karl Alzner will miss tonight’s game against the Maple Leafs with an upper-body injury. He was also out for Game 3 and is listed as day-to-day.

“He is out right now and he won’t play tomorrow,” Trotz said following an optional practice at the Maple Leafs’ facility.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Dave McCarthy of NHL.com: Defenseman Roman Polak was to have surgery on his right leg yesterday. What the injury is and a timeline for it haven’t been announced by the team.

“A real unfortunate situation for Roman,” Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said Tuesday. “He’s a good, good man. He’s a great teammate, plays hard, competes hard. Unfortunate incident. It’s real unfortunate for him and us.”

On the Boston Bruins …

Caryn Switaj on NHL.com: Coach Bruce Cassidy updated their injured defensemen yesterday after practice – Torey Krug, Adam McQuaid, Brandon Carlo and Colin Miller.

” Carlo skated, doing OK, he’s day to day,” said Cassidy. “Doubtful .”

“Colin Miller‘s better, so we’ll have an update in the morning, but he’s ahead of Carlo, know that for sure. And Krug – we’ll list him as day to day, but he wasn’t on the ice today,” said Cassidy.

Joe Haggerty: Miller practiced yesterday. Carlo skated before practice on his own. Krug and McQuaid weren’t on the ice.

On the Anaheim Ducks …

Anaheim Ducks: Defenseman Sami Vatanen skated during their optional skate yesterday said that he was day-to-day.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Forward Paul Stastny is getting closer to returning to the lineup. He practiced with the team for the first time since breaking his foot on March 21st.

Coach Mike Yeo continue to say that he’s day-to-day and wouldn’t say when he might return to the lineup. Stastny took Alex Steen’s spot on the third line. Steen hasn’t been practicing since the start of the playoffs as he deals with a lower-body injury.

“I thought he was skating well,” Yeo said. “I thought he was involved in every drill and conditioning didn’t look like an issue and timing and execution didn’t look like it was an issue either.”
