No coaching change coming for the Ducks

TSN: Despite losing 11 in a row, the Anaheim Ducks are not considering firing head coach Randy Carlyle according to GM Bob Murray.

“At this time, I am not considering a coaching change,” Murray said in the statement.  “I am focused on our players, specifically with who is going to step up in this situation.  The way we played tonight was a step in the right direction, but we need a much, much more.”

“We have higher expectations for this group, and they should expect more from themselves.”

Ducks looking at short-term trade options but keeping an eye towards their long-term future

TSN: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1200 before Ducks GM Murray made his coaching statement. McKenzie said he doesn’t think the Murray wants to fire Carlyle during the season.

McKenzie believes that Murray has been active on the trade front more most of the season. They’ve dealt with injuries and they have to decide what to do with Jakob Silfverberg.

“So he’s got a lot going on there. It’s a contract year for Jakob Silfverberg. Are they going to be able to get him signed, are they not going to be able to get him signed? He’s a real good forward, and if they’re not going to be able to get him signed, then maybe he has to go.”

The Ducks are very deep on the blueline when healthy and they have some really good young Dmen.

Murray is likely looking at trade option for the short-term to get them back into the playoffs but also looking towards getting younger.

“o I think he’s got a lot of balls in the air in terms of going in both directions. Try and make a move here that might push a button that gets them over the top and into one of the wild-card playoff spots, but also maybe has him to think trading some players that might otherwise wouldn’t think of trading, so that you can continue a renewal if you want – not a rebuild by any stretch – but just a bit of a renewal to try and change to change the look of this team long term for many years to come.”
