Canucks thinking eight-years after Boeser’s deal expires

Rick Dhaliwal: Brock Boeser‘s agent Ben Hankinson on Sportsnet 650: “We talked about a long term deal we were heading that way but the market changed. I got upset at the numbers that were leaked about 7 million at the draft. We were close but just couldn’t close but we are happy with 3 years.”

Rick Dhaliwal: Hankinson on the term: “We talked about 1-2 year deals, 4 year deal as well, they didn’t like 5 year deal because it walks him to UFA and we were close on 6-7 year deals. End of the day both sides are happy with 3 years.”

TSN Radio Vancouver: Hankinson on Boeser’s long-term future: “It’s great for Brock to be in Vancouver. I think it’s the best place for him. So it’s not to the plan to sign a 3-year deal and get outta there. I talked to Jim this morning, and he said the plan is to do a 3-year deal, then flip it into an 8-year deal.”

Honka talk picks up … Hurricanes, Flames, and Canucks looking to make moves

David Pagnotta: Though nothing is imminent , trade talks involving Dallas Stars restricted free agent defenseman Julius Honka “are accelerating.”

James (Account4hockey): Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 650 said to keep an eye on the Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks regarding the trade front.

The Flames and Canucks are trying to move some salary from the bottom of their lineup.

The Dallas Stars are looking to get a draft pick for Julius Honka. The Montreal Canadiens are offering a player for Honka.

James: Friedman adds that the Hurricanes are interested in Honka if they are able to trade Justin Faulk.

Friedman on Patrik Laine: “Laine doesn’t sound like he’s that thrilled to be there (WPG).”

James: Friedman’s comments seem to imply that a Justin Faulk trade to the Anaheim Ducks is dead because he wasn’t able to get a contract extension from the Ducks that he liked enough.

J.D. Burke: If the Canucks are looking to clear out some salary from the bottom side of their roster, would think they are trying to move Brandon Sutter and Tim Schaller.

Purely speculation, but he wonders if Jake Virtanen‘s name could possibly be out there.
