On the Detroit Red Wings …
Darren Dreger: “Vanek has agreed to a 1 year deal with Detroit. Believed to be $3 million.”
Craig Custance: “Detroit setting up to have lots of cap space for 2019 free agency. Vanek, Howard, Nyquist, Kronwall all come off the books, close to $18 million. Zetterberg up in the air. Obvious target for them would be Karlsson.”
Helene St. James: “Red Wings poised to sign UFAs G Jonathan Bernier (3 yrs at around $3M cap hit) and F Thomas Vanek (1 yr, $3M). They almost had Cam Ward on 1 yr but he chose CHI. Rest of $$ goes to re-sign RFAs Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou.”
Andy Strickland: “Harri Sateri to sign with Detroit”
On the Vegas Golden Knights …
Kevin Allen: “Can also confirm that Vegas is the favorite for Paul Stastny but the deal is not done yet.”
Ken Wiebe: “#VGK make a lot is sense for Stastny if he chooses to move on from #NHLJets – Golden Knights are a contender and could probably offer a higher AAV”
Jim Matheson: “Vegas traded for Tatar in case Perron left so now Tatar will get his shot in top 6 after a poor run as depth player in the playoffs. If Stastny coming in, you’d think he’d like to pass to James Neal, right?”
On the Winnipeg Jets …
Darren Dreger: “Winnipeg learned late last night Statsny was likely headed in a different direction. Jets went beyond their cap comfort trying to keep him.”
Ken Wiebe: “In my casual projections and articles, I found it tough to see #NHLJets being able to offer C Paul Stastny more than $5.5 million on a deal that stretched beyond two years and the second year was already tough, considering the salary cap crunch is only getting tighter next summer
Ken Wiebe: “With Paul Stastny looking like he’s moving on, it will be interesting to see how long a look Jack Roslovic gets between Patrick Laine, Nikolaj Ehlers at #NHLJets training camp. HC Paul Maurice said at #NHL Draft that the door was still open to using Roslovic in the middle.”
Scott Billeck: “Not signing Paul Stastny could be a blessing in disguise in the end. The #NHLJets have a bevy of RFAs that need money and Blake Wheeler set to become an UFA next summer coming off his best season as a pro. Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine contracts on the horizon as well.”
