On the Arizona Coyotes …
Adrian Dater: Have been hearing some talk that the league has been paying a lot of bills for the Coyotes again, since January. A high ranking NHL official wouldn’t comment when asked.
Adrian Dater: An NHL source said there is no truth to the speculation that the league is paying some of the Coyotes bills.
Craig Morgan: Some trade rumors out there are laughable – Max Domi and the No. 5 pick for Phil Kessel. Unless they get a ridiculous offer for the No. 5 pick, they are not trading it.
Adam Kimelman of NHL.com: Coyotes GM John Chayka said they talking with Oliver Ekman-Larsson about a contract extension. The 26-year old OEL is eligible to sign an extension after July 1st.
“We’ve been very clear that we’re willing to do whatever we possibly can to have him come back, and think he’s a heck of a defenseman, heck of a player, heck of a person,” Chayka said at the 2018 NHL Scouting Combine. “Really believe in him and what he can bring to our team. Trying to get something done to lock him up long, long term. Build around him and really put together a team he deserves.”
Chayka added that he is not considering trading Ekman-Larsson and they haven’t put any deadline on getting an extension done by.
“Right now we’re just focused on getting him signed,” he said. “Feel like we’ve had some good discussions. He’s a big part of what we’re doing. That’s my focus right now.”
