Kevin Allen of the USA Today: It might be in the Colorado Avalanche’s best interest – unless they get an offer they can’t refuse – to wait until the draft to trade either Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog.
A look at 10 other players that have a more reasonable chance of being traded at the March 1st NHL trade deadline.
Kevin Shattenkirk – Boston Bruins and New York Rangers are two teams that are looking for a defenseman. Pending UFA with a $3.1 million cap hit.
Martin Hanzal – 6-foot-6 two-way center interests the Montreal Canadiens. Pending UFA with a $3.1 million cap hit.
Thomas Vanek – If the Red Wings are out of it, Red Wings have to get an asset for him. Pending UFA with a $2.6 million cap hit.
Ben Bishop – May not be easy for the Lightning to move the pending UFA that carries a $5.9 million cap hit.
Michael Stone – Could fit in a contenders top three pairings. Underrated offensively. Pending UFA carries a $4 million cap hit.
Radim Vrbata – Pending UFA is leading the Coyotes in scoring with 35 points in 51 games.
Patrick Eaves – Pending UFA has scored 19 goals in 51 and only carries a $1 million cap hit. Can play on both a checking line or a scoring line.

Shane Doan – A character, physical player. Pending UFA that carries a $3.88 million cap hit and seems ready to give it a shot with another team.
Brian Boyle – The 6-foot-6 pending UFA carries a $2 million salary cap hit.
