The New York Rangers won’t be offering Artemi Panarin a contract extension
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: The New York Rangers released a statement that they are going to retool and not rebuild. GM Chris Drury met with their team leaders individually, and then the team as a whole, according to sources.
Sources added that Artemi Panarin was told that he won’t be getting an extension offer from the Rangers, and that they’ll work with his agent, Paul Theofanous, to facilitate a trade, if possible, to wherever he’d like to go.
Only Artemi Panarin knows where he’d waive a trade too
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston when asked what he’s heard lately on New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin.

Johnston: “Well, Panarin, the Rangers are getting closer and closer by the day, I mean, they’re at the bottom of the conference as we’re recording this, to where they’re going to have to, you know, I think commit more fully to being sellers.
NHL Rumors: New York Rangers, Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck
Panarin has full control here, and so there’s still a conversation that needs to happen with his agent and where he might play. But you know, you can start to look at places that make sense. You know, places maybe where there’s other Russian players. You know, he’s, he’s got to be the most impactful potential player, you know, available, or that it’s expected to become available.
But, you know, it’s hard to know what he’s going to want. Is he, does he can want to move on? Does he just play this out and go right to free agency? I mean, that’s still not totally clear. I don’t, I don’t think the Rangers have got to the point where they’re fully selling them just yet. But obviously the, the hawks are circling a little bit. That it’s pretty clear that the Rangers, you know, just the season’s been tough there, and they need kind of their own little reboot, so to speak.
And so, you know, I don’t think, you know, any contract talks that I’m with Panarinn didn’t get anywhere too quickly early in the season. So it’s not likely at this point an extension is coming. And he’s, he’s gonna get another big money deal, I believe.
And so, you know, that’s, that’s kind of where things stand. It’s just, only he knows where else he might play this season. Like where he would waive a trade to. And I think that that’ll come into a little more clarity as time goes along.
Mackenzie: “By the way, and feel free to tell me off otherwise. When you said the hawks are circling, you meant generally teams are circling, and not Chicago.
Johnston: “Yes, I meant, like other people, that the seagulls are circling, not any. Just want that clear,
because the aggregators out there might hear something different.
NHL Rumors: New York Rangers – Artremi Panarin, and Trade Tiers
Thank you for that point of clarification. Yes, the seagulls are circling. They see some food down there on the beach, and they’re like, Hey, can we go to can we go get some of that? So I was not linking them to that particular.
