The St. Louis Blues tried to trade Dmitrij Jaskin before he was put on waivers
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The St. Louis Blues had put forward Dmitrij Jaskin on waivers earlier in the week and he was claimed by the Washington Capitals.
Blues GM Doug Armstrong said they had been trying to find a trade partner since the end of last season at Jaskin’s request.
“At the end of last year, Dmitrij asked if it was possible for a trade,” general manager Armstrong said. “He felt his career was stagnating. And I understood that.
“So at the draft I informed all the teams that he was looking for a new opportunity. That didn’t transpire. At training camp, I reconfirmed with all the (general) managers that he was looking for a different opportunity, and I didn’t get any calls.”
Trade talk is quiet and there may only be one name to pay attention to this month
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1290 and was asked about any potential player movement that could occur this month. Dreger says that there hasn’t really been much trade talk so far, minus the couple minor trades the past few days.
“The only name that makes sense that we’re going to have to pay attention to in the days and perhaps weeks ahead here on the signing front or trade front is William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs. There’s been no progress there. There hasn’t been a lot of dialogue. Maybe something has changed this afternoon. I don’t get that sense.
“I remind people Nylander is a restricted free agent, like every other restricted free agent – doesn’t have a contract. So he’s entitled to continue this stalemate as long as he’s comfortable. But he’s got to sign by December 1, otherwise he can’t play.”
Teams have been calling the Maple Leafs about Nylander and asking if they would trade him.
“The answer is no right now, but maybe that changes if you get into later October or early November.”
