On the Boston Bruins …
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Boston Bruins RFA winger David Pastrnak remains in the Czech Republic and doesn’t plan on returning to North America until he has a contract in place. He won’t be here for the start of training camp which gets underway . If the holdout lasts an extended period of time, he’ll look to find a team in Europe to skate with.
The Bruins and Pastrnak’s agent continue to go over multiple deals with varying term.
“I’m still talking to Don on a few terms, but no breakthroughs yet,” said Pastrnak’s agent, J.P. Barry, in a text message to CSN New England. “We will keep at it.”
It’s believed the sides have narrowed the previous gap of $2 million per season.
The Bruins may not want to go much more than Johnny Gaudreau $6.75 million per, and Pastrnak may be looking at Vladimir Tarasenko‘s $7.5 million per.
It will probably take a deal around $7 million per season.
On the Montreal Canadiens …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Pierre LeBrun was on TSN 1040 and was talking about the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens will start camp with Jonathan Drouin as the teams No. 1 center and Alex Galchenyuk will be a winger. The Canadiens do have $8.5 million in salary cap space to play with this year.
“I also think, and remember – keep this in the back of your mind guys – the Montreal Canadiens have some cap room and some unfinished business, I think, in terms of what they really want this roster to look like entering the playoffs,” said LeBrun following several minutes of Drouin-based dialogue.”
notes that the Canadiens have some offensive issues, so GM Marc Bergevin could look to fill some holes before the trade deadline.
“But losing in the first round doesn’t cut it when your window is now. So I think the Canadiens are a contender, and I think that they’re going to go out and use that cap room and try to upgrade their offense again before the trade deadline.”
