On the Boston Bruins …
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Colorado Avalanche power forward Gabriel Landeskog would be an intriguing trade possibility for the Boston Bruins. Avs GM Joe Sakic would likely ask for defenseman Brandon Carlo, who is from Colorado Springs, in a package for Landeskog. Haggerty doesn’t think the Bruins should move Carlo in a package for Landeskog as he’s only 20-years old, playing top-pair minutes, and is in the first year of his entry-level deal.
On the Montreal Canadiens …
HabsLinks: During yesterdays press conference, GM Marc Bergevin wouldn’t comment on whether they are working on a contract extension for pending UFA Alexander Radulov or not.
On the Dallas Stars …
Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: (chat) A bit surprised that the Dallas Stars haven’t traded defenseman Patrik Nemeth yet. If/when they do move him, would likely only be for a draft pick or prospect.
At one point had thought that the Stars would trade for Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop by the trade deadline, but that seems unlikely now. His performance is one reason, and the Stars don’t seem like they are a candidate to make a goalie trade anymore.
Reasons why there will be no change for the Stars between the pipes.
1. The contracts are hard to move. Lehtonen will make $5 million next season. Niemi will make $4.5 million. Few teams want to take that on, and the Stars can’t get a goalie without moving a goalie.
2. There aren’t a lot of great goalies out there in trade. Ben Bishop (9-10-2,2.73) has had a bad year. Marc-Andre Fleury (12-5-4, 3.12) is riding Pittsburgh’s goal scoring. There doesn’t seem a savior out there available in trade.
3. If they are both going to be here, both are going to play.Neither has been able to seize the job, so splitting the ice time seems the best answer.
