NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, and Ottawa Senators

Bruins have kicked tires on Charlie Coyle

Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports: Pierre LeBrun said on TSN 690 radio that the Boston Bruins have kicked tires on Minnesota Wild forward Charlie Coyle.

This shouldn’t be much of surprise since Coyle has some size and play down the middle as well as on the wing.

If acquired, the 26-year old, 6 foot 3 forward could center their third line and would instantly make the Bruins better.

On the flip side, he’s only scored over 20 goals once and over 40 points twice in his five years in the league.

Though he has size, he may not be the right fit beside David Krejci when they are healthy up front.

The cost of acquire may help determine if it would be worth it. If it would cost Anders Bjork, then maybe worth it as Bjork may not have a long-term future with the Bruins. Ryan Donato or Danton Heinen may be too much for Coyle.

The Bruins may be better off waiting until closer to the deadline to see what else comes available.

Senators have some pieces they could move

The Fourth Period: The Ottawa Senators have three pending unrestricted free agents that could find themselves on the trade block before the trade deadline – Ryan Dzingel, Tom Pyatt and Magnus Paajarvi.

Goaltender Craig Anderson, as well as forward Bobby Ryan and Zack Smith could also be made available. Each holds a 10-team no-trade list. Ryan also has a no-movement clause.

The 26-year old Dzingel carries a $1.8 million salary cap hit and should net the Senators a decent return if they decide to move him.
