The Boston Bruins may find the prices too high at the deadline…
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com: The writer weighs in on that age old Gabriel Landeskog/Matt Duchene debate with a player that is probably untouchable. That name is Nathan MacKinnon. Apparently if Boston is to part with top prospects then they want the top player from Colorado.
Haggerty also mentions that the price on Kevin Shattenkirk is just too high. It is the normal give and take of the trade deadline period. His free agent price is also too high and only one destination that would pay – the New York Rangers. The Rangers might give him $7 million a year.
Shattenkirk may also be on the Philadelphia Flyers radar.
The Pittsburgh Penguins Marc-Andre Fleury dilemma…
Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Marc-Andre Fleury has no clue where he will be after March 1st but knows where he would like to be. That answer is Pittsburgh.
“The support I get here is always amazing,” Fleury said. “You don’t know what’s coming , and that was nice, a nice feeling.”
It is not known what kind of market there would be for the goaltender.
Gulitti notes that management and coaching has been mostly quiet about the situation. There is no denying the chemistry that Fleury brings to the locker room. However, if there is a deal to be made, then Fleury will have to face that decision. More than likely, he waives the no-movement clause.
If the Penguins don’t ask him to waive his NMC at the deadline, GM Jim Rutherford might ask him to waive before they submit their protected list for the expansion draft.
Coach Mike Sullivan wouldn’t speculate on Fleury’s situation.
“You guys are all getting ahead of yourselves when it comes to that stuff,” he said. “For me, we’re taking each game as it comes. We’re going to play each game as it comes and that’s how I look at it anyway. I thought Marc had a solid game for us . I thought the guys in front of him played hard.”
