On the Boston Bruins …
Cameron Kerry of WEEI: Looking at three potential free agent forward options for the Bruins.
Rick Nash – right wing: The Bruins could use a big winger to play on the second line. He’s deciding on if he’ll play next season or retire because of his history with concussions.
Mark Letestu – center: The Bruins aren’t deep down the middle after Riley Nash left and they could use a third-line center.
Mike Cammallleri – left wing: Though he’s 36-years old, he can still produce. Could be added depth for their bottom-six.
Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston: Bruins GM Don Sweeney should continue to try and add an impactful top-six forward like Jeff Skinner or Artemi Panarin.
They may have to move a Torey Krug, or a prospect like Anders Bjork, or another high draft pick, but they shouldn’t trade Charlie McAvoy or Jake DeBrusk.
On the St. Louis Blues …
Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic: At the start of free agency Patrick Maroon was offered a multi-year deal by the Blues believed to in the $3-4 million range. He had better offers from other teams and the Blues moved on to sign David Perron.
Maroon switched agents, re-evaluated things, and signed the one-year deal with the Blues ($1.75 million).
“It came down to, if I was going to take a one-year deal, what team was going to help me prolong my career and I felt like the St. Louis Blues had my best interest,” Maroon said. “Those (Blues players who called) made me feel wanted and Armstrong was really pushing hard for me. Obviously left some things on the table, but I think it’s a life-changing thing for me and I think this is the team that’s going to get my game where it needs to be and put me in the right direction for the next five years.”
The Blues have about $3.9 million for RFA Joel Edmundson, who has a salary arbitration date of July 25th. There hasn’t been a lot of talk between the sides but that could pick up soon.
