On the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins …
Stephen Whyno of the AP: Whyno wonders if the Pittsburgh Penguins would be interested in Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand if he hit the open market after this season. Marchand is entering the final year of his deal, and he and Sidney Crosby have had good chemistry.
If the Penguins move Marc-Andre Fleury, and don’t bring Chris Kunitz and others back, they could have some available cap space.
On the Vancouver Canucks …
Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: The Vancouver Canucks added Loui Eriksson, Erik Gudbranson and college free agent Troy Stecher this offseason. GM Jim Benning wasn’t able to add the second line left-wing that he had hoped.
“We wanted to add one more player and we looked at things, but they didn’t make sense,” Benning said Thursday at the annual Jake Milford Charity Invitational golf tournament. “But Sven is up to 195 pounds and he feels strong and fast, so we’re going to take a look at him in the No. 2 hole. If something makes sense and I get a call, we might still look at it (trade).
“But I feel good where we’re at now. We have more experience and depth.”
On the Buffalo Sabres …
Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Pierre LeBrun was on TSN 1040 and was asked about Evander Kane‘s status with the Sabres.
“Let’s put it this way,” began LeBrun. “If the Sabres wanted to trade him, who would trade for him at this point, right? Still a very good player, but because of all of this off-ice attention – and again, he hasn’t been found guilty of anything – but nevertheless, it’s just unwanted attention. I’m not sure there’d be a market for him.
“I think the best bet for the Sabres is hope that it’s a quiet year on and off the ice, and that he puts up some numbers.”
