Bruins haven’t talked extension with Krug and Coyle yet

Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now: A source is saying that Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney has yet to speak with the agents for Torey Krug and Charlie Coyle. Both players will be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.

If the Bruins wait until after the season they run the risk of both players leaving.

Do the Bruins want to invest long-term for both? Both Sweeney and coach Bruce Cassidy have already said they view both Krug and Coyle as their next wave of leaders.

Both Krug and Coyle may be willing to take pay cut to remain with the team. Krug makes $5.2 million this season, with Coyle coming in at $3.2 million.

The Kings have goalie options for the few years

Josh Cooper of The Athletic: Speculation began last season that the Los Angeles Kings could entertain the idea of trading goaltender Jonathan Quick. Jack Campbell could be ready for the starters role, with prospect Cal Petersen next in line.

Campbell signed a two-year extension and said that he took less money to learn under Quick. All of Quick, Campbell and Petersen are under contract for at least the next three seasons – Quick under contract for four.

The Kings could trade Quick if the right deal presents itself. There is also the expansion draft coming, so the Kings could lose a goaltender there.

“The expansion draft factors into all your planning,” an NHL team executive said when asked about the Kings’ goaltending. “In the end though you just have to know you’re going to lose a player somewhere in your organization.”
