The Bruins may not want to move Krug, but …
Jimmy Murphy: The Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins talked before the trade deadline, and before the draft about Torey Krug, so it would make sense if Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli called again after Andrej Sekera‘s injury.
Jimmy Murphy: The reason the Bruins would consider moving Krug is that his next contract will be too much for the Bruins to fit in. They Also have Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo needing new deals soon, and they have prospects on the way. The logic of moving him now is also to help fill another void in their roster. They may not want to trade him, but this is what can happen in the salary cap world.
Stars and Seguin being patient
Sean Shapiro: Both the Dallas Stars and 2019 unrestricted free agent Tyler Seguin are being patient when it comes to negotiations on an extension. Seguin is happy playing with the Stars, but he also needs to see that there is a reason to sign a long-term contract extension with the team.
Sean Shapiro: “Show him the money and a reason to believe he can win a cup in Dallas.”
Jets and Laine also be patient
Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine has one-year left on his entry-level contract, but is being patient with regards to a contract extension.
“It’s not something we need to hurry because I still have a contract,” Laine said during the European Player Media Tour on Thursday. “But obviously that’s something I want to do at some point and they want to do. But there’s no rush.”
Laine said there has been “nothing major” going on and is okay with playing out the season.
“I really don’t care,” Laine said. “There’s no rush, really. I can do it next summer or this summer. I don’t mind.”
The 20-year old is hopeful to remain in Winnipeg long-term. Laine has scored 80 goals in his two-year career.
