On Drew Stafford …
Michael Russo of the Stars Tribune: The Wild still need to re-sign RFAs Mikael Granlund, Nino Niederreiter and Marcus Foligno.
The Wild have also spoken with UFAs Matt Cullen and Drew Stafford.
Mikko Koivu will be a free agent after next season the Wild plan to speak with him after they know what they’ve spent on their RFAs.
Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Bruins GM Don Sweeney has kept in touch with Drew Stafford’s camp but they want to wait until they have a “great level of cost certainty” before the UFA winger.
On the Vancouver Canucks …
Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Things are pointing to the Canucks and the 22-year old Bo Horvat agreeing on a six-year contract.
The Montreal Canadiens signed Jonathan Drouin to a six-year, $33 million deal in June. Horvat’s camp could argue that center is a more demanding position and is used in more key situations.
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Canucks president Trevor Linden last week on TSN 1040 and was asked if Connor McDavid‘s deal would impact contract negotiations with Bo Horvat.
“Obviously Connor is a special player and Bo is obviously a special player to us,” said Linden. “We’ve had some really positive conversations with Don Meehan and the Newport Sports guys, and we’re going to continue to work at it throughout the summer and look to get something done with them.”
On if they are looking to eight years with Horvat.
“I don’t think so,” replied Linden of the eight-year time frame. “We’re open to any suggestions. And like I said, we’re working through the process with them, and so far it’s been very positive.”
Linden said that he thinks Daniel and Henrik Sedin will be going year-to-year and that they’ll like sit down after next year and see where they are at physically and mentally.
