On the Calgary Flames …
Eric Francis: Brian Elliott‘s time as the Flames goaltender is over. Can’t see them trying to re-sign him after his play in the playoffs.
Jim Matheson: GM Brad Treliving will have lots of options on their goalie. Ben Bishop is a free agent and Marc-Andre Fleury will be traded.
Dan Rosen: Yes the Flames needed better goaltending in the playoffs, but the play in front of their goaltending was as much of an issue as Elliott was.

Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Brian Elliott was pulled in Game 4 after allowing a weak-angled goal on the third shot of the game. It ended any chance of the Flames re-signing him.
“It’s tough to swallow, especially in an elimination game,” said a soft-spoken Elliott, who deserves full marks for facing the media afterwards.
“It’s not how you imagine things happening.”
Elliott struggled at the start of the season but came on towards the end. Before the playoffs started the Flames seemed likely to at least consider re-signing him. Elliott had a 3.89 goals against average and .864 save percentage in the playoffs.

Chris Nicols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on 630 CHED yesterday and was talking about the Calgary Flames. GM Brad Treliving doesn’t have a contract for next season and Friedman talks about if they should extend him or not and why nothing has been done yet.
“You know, I don’t understand the way they’re doing this,” said NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman when asked about the Treliving situation specifically during a radio segment on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Thursday afternoon. “It doesn’t make any sense to me.
“Look, are they going to make him a serious offer? Or are they going to make him an offer he can refuse. That’s my No. 1 question. Because I think they will make him an offer. I just don’t know what kind of offer it will be.
“The other thing I always wonder is when you let it get to this point – and I know the Flames have said, ‘We do business differently.” – well, sometimes you lose control over your business when you do it that way. I wonder if they’re looking at somebody else?
“One thing I wouldn’t be surprised – I think if Treliving is not there, I think Craig Conroy becomes a pretty serious candidate to be the GM there.”
