On Dougie Hamilton and the Calgary Flames …
Jimmy Murphy: “Why is Dougie Hamilton being available via a trade news now? Has been for a while!”
Chris Nichols of Fan Rag Sports: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 and was talking about the possibility of Calgary Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton being available.
“That rumor has been fairly consistent. It really has,” said Dreger, as part of a larger overall conversation on the Flames’ early season struggles. “I can think back to the draft in Buffalo, where Dougie Hamilton’s name had surfaced at that point. In checking with Brad Treliving, the general manager of the Calgary Flames, he brushed it off and said there was nothing to it. The agent, J.P. Barry, brushed it off and dismissed it. Said there was nothing to it.”
Dreger adds that there is a premium market for defenseman. If the Flames decide at some point that they want to move, they shouldn’t have a problem finding an interested team.
Chris Nichols on Fan Rag Sports: Bob McKenzie on the Flames and Dougie Hamilton. It’s hard to get a gauge on where things are. Teams could be inquiring about him. They may not be shopping him.
“What I would say is this – the start the Calgary Flames have gotten off to is a horrible start. They expected to be much, much, much better than they’ve been. And I don’t doubt that there’s an enormous amount of pressure from ownership on down to management and the coaching staff and to the players to get this thing pointed in the right direction. Sometimes that happens internally, and the best players we’ve talked about in Calgary – especially Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau – have not been nearly good enough this year. So maybe it’s a matter of those guys flipping the switch and getting this thing pointed in the right direction. Or maybe it’s a case where they are looking at every one of their options, including Dougie Hamilton or just about anybody else – probably not named Monahan or Gaudreau – in terms of what trade possibilities there might be.”
The Flames could be listening on a lot of things with the start to the season they’ve had.
