On the Calgary Flames …
Eric Francis of Sportsnet: Flames GM Brad Treliving said they lacked scoring depth and relied too much on their young players.
“I think there’s a little bit of skill deficiency and a little bit of a mental deficiency. We rely on a lot of young players still and we have to find a way to support them better and ultimately get results.”
The Flames will spend several weeks evaluating things. Will the Flames need to make radical changes?
“A year ago we probably exceeded expectations but this year I think we were under expectations – you have to ask which team are you?” said Gulutzan. “Which players are you? This year or last year’s player? Which coaching staff are you? This year’s or last year’s? Those answers are probably somewhere in the middle.”
Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun: Coach Glen Gulutzan isn’t worried about his own job security just yet.
“That distracts from the process,” Gulutzan said. “I came in here this morning, getting prepared for each of the meetings I have. You owe that to your players before they leave, because you’re sending them home with a game-plan. Then tomorrow, I’ll sit down with Tre (general manager Brad Treliving) and go through the differences in the year.
“Those are the things that I’m focused on. I’m not too worried about where I stand. I’ve never been too worried about where I stand.”
Gulutzan has a year left on his contract.
