NHL Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes, and the Philadelphia Flyers

The Carolina Hurricanes had a quiet trade deadline; they couldn’t find that one player to put them over

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: The Carolina Hurricanes had a quiet trade deadline, and while GM Eric Tulsky was trying hard, they didn’t feel there was one that would put them over the top.

“We are always looking for opportunities to add high-end talent, players who can really make our team better. This year, we tried very hard to shake a player like that loose, and there was nobody who we felt we could get who would really push us forward in that way.

“There were a lot of players available who we felt like would make us deeper, and that has value, but we’re also a little price-sensitive when it comes to just adding depth.”

NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators Cutting Down GM Candidates

They looked Artemi Panarin before he was dealt to the LA Kings, and they kicked tires on Vincent Trocheck. They check in on St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, but talks weren’t serious.

Some center trade options for the Philadelphia Flyers

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: The Philadelphia Flyers have some good depth on the wing, but they are lacking down the middle. They have prospects in Jack Berglund, Jett Luchanko and Jack Nesbitt, that they hope will eventually turn out, but GM Daniel Brier needs to keep his eye for any NHL centers that might become available.

Three potential options the Flyers could look at exploring.

Dean Letourneau/Matthew Poitras – Boston Bruins – The Flyers do have some interest in both centers, and may have made an offer to the Bruins around the trade deadline. Neither is established, though, and may not have the top-six upside the Flyers are needing.

Matty Beniers – Seattle Kraken – Shane Wright‘s name has been out there, but what about Beniers? Not a true No. 1, as the 23-year-old is on pace for over 50 points since his second season at 57. On a seven-year, $50 million deal. Trading for some help on the wing would make sense. Kraken would still be fine with Chandler Stephenson, Wright, Jake O’Brien and Berkly Catton down the middle. The Flyers may not like Beniers and his contract enough to move a top winger.

NHL Injuries: Saturday the 21st

Robert Thomas – St. Louis Blues – Asking price at the deadline was the equivalent of four first-round picks. He carries a $8.125 million cap hit through 2031. The price of one of Porter Martone and Matvei Michkov, Jett Luchanko, an additional prospect and a first-round pick may be too steep. Some think Thomas is a second-line center and not a first. If the price was lower, could see them being interested.
