Carolina Hurricanes GM Waddell on Aho, their UFA goaltenders and free agency
Michael Smith: Caroline Hurricanes GM Don Waddell on restricted free agent forward Sebastian Aho: “I feel very confident we will get a deal done. It’s probably not going to happen today or tomorrow.”
Chip Alexander: Waddell said that free agent goaltender Curtis McElhinney is definitely “going somewhere else.”
Waddell said that he’s been talking to free agent Petr Mrazek “hourly.”
Chip Alexander: Waddell said that they are looking to add some depth through free agency and not to expect “big guys like Panarin to be coming to Raleigh.”
Panthers still seem to the favorites for Panarin, Bobrovsky torn
David Dwork: Have been told that Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin have a strong desire to play together. Panarin is leaning towards Florida but Bobrovsky is torn.
A source saying that Lamoriello is playing a “huge impact.” Regardless, it’s down to the Florida Panthers and New York Islanders.
Arthur Staple: There is lots of talk around Artemi Panarin. There are reports out there that have the Islanders out or the New York Rangers out or that all three teams are still in.
The Panthers still seem to be the favorites.
This likely means that the Islanders still haven’t closed the doors on Anders Lee.
Andy Strickland: The race between the Islanders and Panthers for Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky is getting interesting.
Andy Graziano: David Pagnotta (the fourth period) said on NHL Network Radio that the New York Islanders are out on Artemi Panarin.
@Account4hockey: David Pagnotta said on Sportsnet 590 that it’s looking like Panarin is heading to Florida with Bobrovsky unless either the Islanders or Rangers step up to the $12-plus million range for Panarin.
The Panthers would then likely move forward Mike Hoffman for ideally a defenseman.
If the Panther can’t trade James Reimer, they will buy him out .
