On the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes …

Rick Dhaliwal: Noah Hanifin‘s agent J.P Barry on the Canucks trade rumors:  “Rumours are created in certain markets looking for a young defenseman. People may be calling to see if he’s available but I don’t think there is anything specific about Noah himself.”

Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 650 and was asked about his mention that the Canucks could be a “stealth team” in on Hurricanes defenseman Noah Hanifin, and what the cost to acquire Hanifin could be.

“I don’t know the answer to that exactly,” said Friedman. “But I do know that Vancouver is interested.”

Friedman notes that after their new owner basically said almost everyone is available, every team is calling. Not everyone is going to get traded, but they are finding out their values.

Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk have been in the rumor mill for a while. You don’t hear Hanifin’s and Elias Lindholm‘s names as much, but there is a lot of interest in them according to Friedman.

“I believe that the Canucks have shown interest in Hanifin, and I believe that whatever they’ve talked about the Hurricanes haven’t discounted it. Look, I know this is going to go bananas. I’m just going to say this is my guess. My guess is it involves the seventh overall pick, but I don’t know that for sure.”

Friedman continued that Hanifin is a pending RFA and if the Canucks were to acquire him, they’d want to know what he’s looking for.

If the cost to acquire is the No. 7 pick, Friedman said he would seriously consider it. Friedman adds that if Hanifin says he wants a two-year bridge deal instead of a long-term deal, you may not want to gamble the No. 7 pick.
