On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Chris Hine of the Chicago Tribune: The Blackhawks can’t go fetch a big piece during this deadline. However, they might be able to swing a defensive prospect for a smaller asset.
Don’t not expect much but a lot can change over the next 12 days or so. GM Stan Bowman is in a bit of a holding pattern until more things shake out. It is often said never say never when it comes to a big deal. However, the likelihood seems to be extremely low. Chicago will not mortgage their future unless the right situation comes along.
On the Detroit Red Wings …
Ansar Khan of MLive: (mailbag) The Red Wings are last in the Eastern Conference with 25 games to go, they are sellers.
GM Ken Holland has a year left on his deal and expects him to be back.
Coach Jeff Blashill might be on the hot seat, but don’t see them replacing him during the season.
Thomas Vanek should interest multiple teams at the deadline, the Wings will likely wait until close to the deadline in hope of getting the highest return. Guessing they would get a second round pick or maybe a third and fourth round pick or a prospect.
Vanek won’t re-sign with them in the offseason. He’ll want a multi-year deal and a big raise. The Wings won’t have a lot of salary cap space.
If the Red Wings were to trade Gustav Nyquist or Tomas Tatar, they’d want a roster player and not draft picks or prospects. Those type of trades normally happen in the offseason and not at the deadline.
doubts the Red Wings will trade Mike Green, who has a year left on his contract – $6 million and a no-trade clause.
They might be able to get a late-round pick for Steve Ott.
