Avs and Rantanen to wait until after the season
Luke Fox: Colorado Avalanche pending restricted free agent Mikko Rantanen said that they will wait until after the season to get into contract talks with the Avalanche.
McCrimmon a GM candidate for Edmonton and Seattle
TSN: Pierre LeBrun said that Kelly McCrimmon is among the top two or three potential candidates for the Oilers vacant GM position.
“I had a text message exchange with George McPhee, Vegas’ general manager, about McCrimmon, and he declined to answer anything regarding Edmonton, which in this case is a particularly sensitive matter. I think it’s dangerous to read into that either way. It doesn’t mean that he would deny Edmonton the chance ultimately.”
McPhee has said in the past that he wouldn’t get in the way of McCrimmon but in-season timing may not work.
Ryan Rishaug adds that the Oilers are also in the same division as the Vegas Golden Knights.
LeBrun notes that Seattle has also started making a list of potential GMs and McCrimmon is on their list. Seattle may be waiting until the offseason to approach Vegas.
The asking price Muzzin in really high
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1290 and was asked about the asking price for Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin. McKenzie notes that the price for Muzzin and guys like him are ‘astronomically high.’
“So I would assume that the Kings will be saying, ‘We want a first-round pick, and we want a really good blue-chip prospect or young player,’ and that’s what the asking price will be.
“Now, whether it gets met or not, depends how many teams want him, what the other options are. And to your point, it’s early yet. You’ve got to see some other deals drop to know the actual market value for players like that is going to get set at. We don’t even know what the rental prices are going to be.
The Kings are looking to get a haul for Muzzin if they are going to move him. McKenzie that starting point is likely a first-round pick and a really good young defenseman.
