Seguin’s next deal will likely be an eight-year deal at around $10 million per season. The Stars would likely want to get him signed for the same as Jamie Benn – $9.5 million per season.

On the Detroit Red Wings …
Ansar Khan of MLive: The Red Wings need to cut some salary may depend on how much they re-sign Andreas Athanasiou for and if they put anyone on LTIR other than Johan Franzen.
GM Ken Holland sees them being just over the $75 million cap ceiling if nobody else goes on the LTIR. They’d need to trade or waive someone if that was the case, with Holland saying they’ll wait to see how training camp plays out.
After Franzen is placed on the LTIR, the Wings sit at about $73.6 million with Athanasiou left to sign.
Contract talks with Anthansiou are ongoing.
“I made a number of offers; we continue to talk,” Holland said. “We’ve had a number of conversations.”
Holland wouldn’t say what term length they are talking about. He could get a two-year bridge deal.
Jonathan Ericsson (wrist), Tomas Tatar (shoulder), Luke Glendening (ankle) and Niklas Kronwall (knee) are expected to be ready for the start of the season. They are not certain about Ryan Sproul who had ACL surgery.
“If everybody is healthy when we get to opening day, we’ll probably have to make a move,” Holland said. “I’m anticipating we’ll be over by a little bit.”
The Red Wings will be in contact with Will Butcher’s camp when he becomes agent on August 15th.
The Red Wings are close to signing RFA defenseman Robbie Russo.
