The Ottawa Senators asking price for Curtis Lazar is high

On the Ottawa Senators …

Darren Dreger: Forward Curtis Lazar is still highly regarded by the Senators. He needs to play and develop though, which would be his motivation for a change.

Darren Dreger: JP Barry, Lazar’s agent, is expected to meet this weekend with Senators GM Pierre Dorion. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he asks for a trade.

Bruce Garrioch: Lazar was scratched for the fourth straight game. Teams have called the Senators and have been told it would take a high draft pick for him – a first or second round pick.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

The Fourth Period: Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli spoke with the media yesterday. The Oilers won’t be that involved with the rental market, but could be looking to add a scoring winger.

“I really don’t want to delve into that market,” he said. “I think there are areas we can tinker with. I think the team deserves it, based on that they’re in the conversation. We wanted to be in the conversation and we are.

“Things fall in your lap, and we’ll see what happens. There’s a lot of time left, but I don’t see us being heavily involved in that market.”

It’s believed they’ve shown interest in Patrick Eaves, Martin Hanzal and Brian Boyle.

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 with a quick note on the Carolina Hurricanes.

“Carolina, they’re still a team that’s building. To me, the biggest is are they in on Duchene,” said Friedman. “They are a team that can make this work. They’ve watched Colorado a lot. I haven’t spoken to Joe Nieuwendyk, but I’ve heard he’s been in Denver quite a bit this year to watch those guys play.

“To me, Carolina is a team that is in that conversation. I just don’t know how far.”
