Vanek won’t be back in Detroit

Max Bultman: The Detroit Red Wings have let Thomas Vanek know that there isn’t really a fit for next season. He’s been talking to other teams.

LaBanc may be okay with a bridge deal

Kevin Kurz: Getting the sense that San Jose Sharks RFA forward Kevin Labanc would be okay with a bridge contract. He wants to stay in San Jose and they really don’t want to trade him. It’s very likely that a deal will eventually get done.

After Marleau’s buyout

David Pagnotta: Forward Patrick Marleau is going to consider all options. It is not a foregone conclusion that it’s either the San Jose Sharks or retirement for him.

Coyotes pursuing everything

Craig Morgan of the Athletic: Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka at the draft on the weekend.

“We’re pursuing everything,” Chayka said after the NHL Draft had ended here at Rogers Arena. “If we had done some things in the trade market then maybe we wouldn’t have pursued some things in the free-agent market but we’re going to continue to pursue it all until we satisfy our needs.”

Source has said that the Coyotes met with Joe Pavelski‘s agent. They had planned on making an offer to Kevin Hayes.

Matt Duchene, Wayne Simmonds, Anders Lee and Ryan Dzingel may be out of their price range.

The Coyotes had been talking with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning about taking a bad contract and a sweetener.

The Vegas Golden Knights could be an option as well according to sources. They had talked about Erik Haula and Jonathan Marchessault. Other salaries the Golden Knights may be consider moving include Max Pacioretty, Paul Stastny and Nikita Gusev.

Phil Kessel and Jason Zucker are a couple of wingers who could be available.

“There is still a lot of discussion ongoing and there will be opportunities, but we’ve got to be disciplined and make the right decision,” Chayka said. “Like I have said all along, this is a calculated approach to one or two moves that will really help us.”

Coyotes Christian Dvorak has had his name come up in trade talks with multiple teams. The Minnesota Wild were one team.
