Don’t expect any coaching changes for three Canadian teams
Zach Laing of Oilers Nation: David Pagnotta on DFO Rundown last week on not to expect any coaching changes with the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Calgary Flames.
“I know a lot of people in Alberta are going nuts as well for something, but you just signed (Kris) Knoblauch to a three-year extension,” he said on Wednesday’s edition of The DFO Rundown, after talking about how the Toronto Maple Leafs aren’t likely to make a coaching change. “The Flames just signed (Ryan) Huska to a two-year extension.
“You’re probably not signing these guys and then making a coaching change two months later. I get it that everyone’s going nuts about this, losing their minds, but maybe it’s the roster construction that’s not up to snuff for some of these teams.
NHL Rumors: Flyers, Panarin, and the Devils
“Maybe the realism is Toronto’s not deep enough, Edmonton’s not deep enough right now. The Flames aren’t that good right now. So you have to take all of that into consideration… So no, I don’t expect a coaching change in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary anytime soon.”
Could the Pittsburgh Penguins make a goaltender available?
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – Growing Concern Around Canadiens Teams episode, on the Pittsburgh Penguins being a team that may have a goaltender available.
** NHLRumors.com transcription
Friedman: “We were talking about teams that have goalies available. I got a note because we’re saying, like, who’s really available? I got a note from someone who said, ‘You left out a team.’ And I said, ‘Oh yeah, who’s that?’ And they said, ‘The Penguins.’
And you know, the Penguins are going really well right now, and they’ve had some injuries at the position, which always complicates things.
But basically, this person said to me, if you look at its base, they’ve got Tristan Jarry. They’ve got (Arturs) Silovs, who’s played very well for them. They’ve got Sergey Murashov, who’s been up there while Jarry’s hurt. And the fans love him, and the organization likes him. He’s a really talented young goalie, 21 years old. And also they have Joel Blomqvist, who was also injured for a while in the American Hockey League, but, you know, was one of their top goalies last year.
NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars and Buffalo Sabres
So Pittsburgh has four guys now. Who knows what they would do all this and when, but someone just said to me that you should be including the penguins as a team that has goaltending depth.”
