On Dwight King …

Rick Dhaliwal: Have been hearing that free agent forward Dwight King will be signing a contract to play in the KHL this season. The Vancouver Canucks showed mild interest in King.

Dennis Bernstein: King would get guaranteed money by signing to play in the KHL. He would have likely had to sign a PTO to possibly remain in the NHL.

On the New Jersey Devils …

Rick Dhaliwal: (Devils 2012 5th round draft pick who hasn’t signed an entry-level deal)  Alex Kerfoot’s agent JP Barry “August 15 he is free to talk to everyone, have to wait until then”.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Eric Engels of Sportsnet: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin‘s focus turns to using his the almost $8.5 million in salary cap space to fill holes at center and a need for a defenseman or two that can move the puck.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on NHL Network yesterday after Andrei Markov said he’ll be heading to the KHL for this season. Friedman thinks that Canadiens GM Bergevin has an idea or two in mind on how to use the cap space.

“I think you guys a few minutes ago played the key clip, and that is that (Markov) was asked to wait until September or October,” said Friedman. “I get the impression that you’ve got Marc Bergevin sitting here with a lot of cap space and I think he’s sitting on something, or some ideas. And I’m not necessarily saying that he’s going to do something big, but I think he’s dreaming big.

“You talked about the trade earlier this year – the Sergachev-for-Drouin deal – I don’t think that trade happens if they aren’t trying to do something after what was a nightmare year for them last year to change the impression of the organization in the province.”
