On the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes …
Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet Headlines on the Edmonton Oilers looking for offense on the wing. The Oilers have been disappointed with the early results from the Ryan Strome – Jordan Eberle trade.
“I think they’re not married to even keeping Strome,” Kypreos said during Saturday’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. “If they could move him, I think they probably would. The question is, would he bring anything of significance in return?”
Elliotte Friedman: The Oilers are looking for speed. The New York Rangers might be looking to make some sort of change and wonders if there is a fit for the Oilers with someone like Chris Kreider.
Chris Johnston: Teams have started calling the Winnipeg Jets about goaltender Michael Hutchinson, who is playing in the AHL. There have been some goalies getting injured and others who are underperforming. The Jets would consider moving him if they can find the right fit.
Elliotte Friedman: The Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in KHL defenseman Igor Ozhiganov. There was a report in the offseason that GM Lou Lamoriello and coach Mike Babcock were in Russia to meet with him. Other teams will be interested, but word out of Russia is that he’ll be headed to Toronto.
Elliotte Friedman: If the Detroit Red Wings consider a coaching change, think that Dave Tippett‘s name will come up, maybe Todd Nelson as well.
Chris Johnston: Red Wings GM Ken Holland doesn’t have a contract beyond this season. There have been some people casually linking Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman back to the Red Wings. It’s not enough though to actually report that it could happen.
Elliotte Friedman: Asked Yzerman last year about the possibility of going back to Detroit and all Yzerman would say is that he is the GM of the Lightning.
Chris Johnston: Looking like the Carolina Hurricanes sale has fallen through.
Nick Kypreos: There could be some financial concerns with the Arizona Coyotes as they’ve had some massive loses. Some are wondering if Andrew Barroway’s pockets are deep enough to cover this season as the sole owner. The NHL is committed to Barroway.
