On the Edmonton Oilers …
Jim Matheson: The Edmonton Oilers were watching the Stars. Could be looking at Patrick Sharp. The Stars are trying to get rid of a goalie.
Jim Matheson: Craig MacTavish has watched the past two Buffalo Sabres games. Maybe looking at goaltender Anders Nilsson or defenseman Cody Franson.
Mark Spector: The Oilers are not in a position to give up multiple picks for a rental just yet.
On the New York Islanders …
Arthur Staple: Don’t think the Islanders are in the rental market. They are looking longer-term in Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle, etc. Those deals are harder to put together during the season.
On the Arizona Coyotes …
Renaud Lavoie: The Coyotes are seeing what the trade market is for forward Anthony Duclair.
Brian Lawton: You have to wonder if the Coyotes could use one or two of their draft picks after the season and before the expansion draft to acquire unprotected players.
Jimmy Murphy: Based off of Shane Doan’s reaction to Martin Hanzal being traded last night, could see him waiving his no-movement clause to possibly the Sharks, Ducks, Flames or Oilers.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators GM Pierre Dorion continues to try and make a deal before the deadline. Three sources saying Dorion is showing interest in several forwards and the odd defenseman. Dorion has the go ahead from ownership to add some salary, but prices to acquire still remain high.
The Senators are believed to have some interest in Patrick Sharp, Jiri Hudler, Thomas Vanek, Drew Stafford, Martin Hanzal, and P.A. Parenteau (possibly because they scouted Devils game on Saturday).
Sharp and Hudler make the most sense for the Senators.
The Senators don’t want to give up Thomas Chabot and Colin White. Curtis Lazar‘s name has come up as well, but the Senators may not want to give up on him yet.
“You have to be careful with guys like Lazar because you move them and then five years from now they’re playing 18 minutes a night for someone else,” said a league executive Friday.
