Oilers could look towards Europe
Jim Matheson: The Edmonton Oilers could look at some of the older European free agents that might be able to step right into their lineup. In the past, they’ve been able to add some checkers, but what they need this time are scorers.
Eriksson’s salary after July 1st may make him more tradeable
Iain MacIntyre: Vancouver Canucks owe Loui Eriksson a $4 million bonus on July 1st. After that Eriksson will only be owed $9 million over the final three years of his contract.
The Canucks could even retain some salary making him even more tradeable.
One catch could be that Eriksson has one more year left with a full no-trade clause.
Iain MacIntyre: Canucks GM Jim Benning did say on Monday that he will be talking with the rest of their staff to see where Eriksson fits in with their future plans.
McKenzie on New Jersey Devils Taylor Hall
TSN: Bob McKenzie on Taylor Hall.
“The bigger question that will be asked will be in the off-season because Taylor Hall of course is one year away from unrestricted free agency. The Devils are obviously going to want to extend him. He likes it in New Jersey, he liked it better when he was a Hart Trophy winner on a playoff team as opposed to what’s happened to his game and that of the Devils, but that’s something for general manager Ray Shero and him to deal with in the off-season and I’m sure it will be one of those dominant storylines come the summer.”
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie on NBCSN talking about Taylor Hall who has a year left on his contract and is eligible for a contract extension after July 1st.
“But this is the Hart Trophy winner from a year ago, and the Devils have taken a big step back this year. It’s going to be fascinating to see what his interest is in staying in New Jersey, and what New Jersey’s interest is in terms of what they’re prepared to give him in term and dollars.
“So that’s something that will be decided in the offseason. But general manager Ray Shero and the agent for Taylor Hall, Darren Ferris, will get together once the season is over and start to see how they want to proceed on that front.”
