On the Vancouver Canucks and Erik Gudbranson …

News 1130 Sports: It will be interesting to see if Erik Gudbranson‘s injury plays any role in their potential contract talks. They are able to start contract extension talks on January 1st.

On the Ottawa Senators and Clarke MacArthur …

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators GM Pierre Dorion has said he’d like to add some more depth upfront, but he will wait until he sees how the Clarke MacArthur situation plays out. MacArthur has been out all season with a concussion, his fourth in 18 months. He’ll be meeting with doctors later this week in hopes of getting clearance to return.

The Senators have been playing well, so Dorion hasn’t felt pressure to make a trade.

On the Montreal Canadiens and Carey Price …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Carey Price‘s is eligible to sign a new deal on July 1st as his six-year, $39 million contract expires after the 2017-18 season. Could Price make $10 million a year on his next deal? Bob McKenzie on TSN 690.

“That’s really up to him, isn’t it?” surmised NHL Insider Bob McKenzie during a Monday appearance on Montreal’s TSN 690. “With some players, it’s kind of like you just put the contract in front of them and say, ‘Fill in whatever number works for you. But… if you want to win and you want to keep the band together and you want to leave a little somethin’ somethin’ for us to make sure that we can pay everybody that we need to pay and you want to play on a competitive team that’s going to contend for a Cup, then the number probably needs to be south of X.’ And tell them what X is.

…

“But $10 million is most certainly a possibility. You’re right, when you look at the best players in the game, you’ve got Crosby and you’ve got McDavid and you’ve got Price. Well, the one who’s coming up to bat first is Price, so it’ll be fascinating to see whether he does go to break the $10 million barrier or decides, ‘In the interest of making the team better, I’m going to take a big, big discount.”
