On the Ottawa Senators and Erik Karlsson …
David Pagnotta: (last night after Doughty signing news) “Some trade activity picking up recently out of Ottawa, it appears. Chatter on Karlsson/Ryan package deal getting a bit stronger. Should be an interesting 24-48 hours ahead. Should note, Ryan has a $2M bonus due July 1. We’ll see.”
Chris Nichols: (yesterday morning) Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960: “I think the market for him has been a little softer than they would have hoped, and I think that’s also because teams know that they can play hardball with them.”
Chris Nichols: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1290: “Things have been very quiet on the Karlsson front this week. I don’t know that there’s as many teams as they hoped interested in Karlsson, and I don’t know if there’s as many of those teams that are interested in paying a premium for Erik Karlsson.”
Chris Nichols: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1290: “They tried to trade him at the deadline, and they didn’t feel like they had the right offer on the table. They’re trying to trade him now, and they may have even less options than they had at the trade deadline.”
Chris Nichols: McKenzie on a Karlson trade: “It’s kind of an uncertain situation there. I’d be surprised if it happened by Sunday, but you never know.”
Mike Kelly: (early yesterday afternoon) “Fluid situation but appears likely scenario for Erik Karlsson is…. 1) Gets traded to Vegas with Bobby Ryan sooner rather than later… 2) Senators look to free agency to fill open D spot as opposed to what would come back from Vegas.”
Shawn Simpson: “Can’t say I’m shocked to hear the TSN big boys, saying the Karlsson trade market has gone down. Best deals are always at the deadline or draft. Post draft used to get crazy quiet. If there’s no trade or extension. Dorion should just bring him back for the year.”
TSN 1200: Darren Dreger on TSN 1200 (Thursday): “I don’t think Dorion is getting the rate of return he needs to make a Karlsson trade”
