On the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars and New York Islanders …
Elliott Friedman of Sportsnet: Assumption may have been that the Buffalo Sabres would be desperate to trade Evander Kane and that the Vancouver Canucks could get him for cheap, which isn’t going to be the case.
Have heard that the Sabres are looking to add speed to their forward group and on defense. The Canucks aren’t going to trade forward Brock Boeser or defenseman Olli Juolevi unless the return is huge. The only roster player the Sabres may be interested in is defenseman Chris Tanev. The Canucks are not interested in that.
The Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings are looking for defensemen. The Avs likely looking for two of them.
The Calgary Flames are open to making a trade.
The Minnesota Wild are looking for scoring.
The Montreal Canadiens are looking for a defenseman and possibly a power forward or two.
If the Chicago Blackhawks add anyone, it would likely be a winger.
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network on Monday and talking with E.J. Hradek about the trade market and if it’s starting to pick up.
Friedman said that things are picking up a little. Teams have been calling the Dallas Stars about Julius Honka, offering the Stars an “anvil” and not a “life raft.”
“I think one of the more interesting teams is going to be Montreal. They’re a team that clearly is in the playoffs. I think they see themselves as kind of being in ‘go for it’ mode. We’ve talked in the past about them being interested in getting another defenseman. I think there’s more. I think they’re looking at potential forwards too. I think they’re one of the teams that’s definitely interested in Martin Hanzal from Arizona if the Coyotes do decide to make that move. I see the Canadiens as a team that are kind of all in, and I think they’re going to see what they can look to add somewhere down the line to make themselves better. And Marc Bergevin is a guy, if you look at his history – he likes to try and act early.”
The Islanders are looking to add a forward and the Sabres are looking for a defenseman. The Blues could be looking to add a veteran. The Blackhawks could look at a winger if their kids don’t pan out like they had hoped.
