The New York Islanders may have kicked tires on Jordan Eberle

On the Calgary Flames …

Eric Francis: Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman has a no-movement clause so they can’t demote him. He could become a healthy scratch if Matt Bartkowski progresses and earns Glen Gulutzan’s trust.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Frank Seravalli: Teams are saying the Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin sent out a note saying that defenseman Greg Pateryn is available for trade. He is in the lineup tonight against the Rangers.

Eric Engels: A couple GMs confirmed that they received a memo from the Canadiens about Pateryn. Would seem that he’s been available for some time.

On the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger on TSN 690 on if he’s heard anything regarding Edmonton Oilers forward Jordan Eberle.

“Not a lot, to be honest,” said Dreger. “I would say a month  or so – maybe six weeks ago – there was some tire-kicking. I know that there were three teams that were calling Peter Chiarelli in Edmonton, but no one really willing to jump and take the bait. I believe that the Islanders were one of those teams. But obviously it didn’t go anywhere.

“And the last time I checked with Chiarelli, which was last week – late last week – he said that things had cooled on Eberle. And that’s not to say that there’s no interest in Eberle or that Edmonton has taken him off the market. It’s just maybe kind of a dull time.

“I think if Edmonton is going to make that type of a deal, I suspect that it’s more likely that happens in the offseason because again it’s somewhat buyer beware. Jordan Eberle is a real good player and a player who can fit on most teams’ top six, but he still has term and a pretty big chunk of salary cap space remaining on that contract. So it could be problematic between now and March 1.”
