Keep an eye on the Flyers
Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: The Philadelphia Flyers are a team to keep an eye on ahead of the February 25th trade deadline. Part of the reason that GM Ron Hextall was let go was for his ‘perceived lack of action.’
New GM Chuck Fletcher will be expected to make so me moves. They have a deep prospect pool and the salary cap space.
The Sharks and Karlsson will soon need to think about the future
Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: It’s not sounding like there have been any serious contract talks between the San Jose Sharks and Erik Karlsson‘s camp.
The sides are still getting used to each other and it hasn’t always been smooth. The sides will soon need to figure out if there is a long-term fit.
It seems unlikely that they would trade him before the deadline. It would make for an interesting July 1st if there isn’t a fit.
Five goalies who could be traded
Frank Seravalli of TSN: Looking at five goaltenders who could be on the move.
Sergei Bobrovsky – Columbus Blue Jackets – Pending UFA at a $7.43 million cap hit. Seems unlikely that the Columbus Blue Jackets would move him. Believed to be looking for a seven-year deal at around $10.5 million. Would the Flyers be interested in bringing Bobrovsky back? May not make sense given Carter Hart could be close.
Matt Murray – Pittsburgh Penguins – One-year left at $3.75 million. Only 24 years old, has two Stanley Cups but is inconsistent and has dealt with injuries.
Jimmy Howard – Detroit Red Wings – Pending UFA at $5.3 million. GM Ken Holland could be looking to get a first-round pick before the deadline.
Cam Talbot – Edmonton Oilers – Pending UFA at a $4.17 million cap hit. Looking like he could use a change of scenery. Mikko Koskinen is getting more starts but the Oilers aren’t a hurry to trade Talbot.
Craig Anderson – Ottawa Senators – One-year left at $4.75 million. His contract and the fact that they don’t have anyone to replace are reasons he’s still in Ottawa. If the Senators retain salary, maybe a contender would be interested as insurance.
