Golden Knights trying to create some cap space

Pierre LeBrun: The Vegas Golden Knights continue to talk to teams about trades that would give them some salary cap space.

Right-handed defenseman Colin Miller has come up in several conversations

A few teams are calling and asking about restricted free agent Nikita Gusev.

Capitals waiting for cap number before making a decision on their RFAs

Brian McNally: Washington Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said that they still haven’t made a decision on whether to send Andre Burakovsky a qualifying offer or not. They are waiting to see what the salary cap number is going to be before addressing the RFA deadline on Monday.

JJ Regan: MacLellan has had contract talks with RFA Jakub Vrana. They will wait for the cap number to come out.

Oilers called the Hurricanes about Mrazek

Pierre LeBrun: Have heard that the Edmonton Oilers have talked to the Carolina Hurricanes about the rights to goaltender Petr Mrazek.

The Hurricanes don’t want to move him yet as they are still hoping to be able to re-sign him.

Hurricanes and Faulk to talk extension

Frank Seravalli: The Hurricanes are hoping to meet with Justin Faulk‘s camp at the draft to discuss what a potential contract extension might look like.

Both the Hurricanes and Faulk think an extension is possible, but if the Hurricanes think that the numbers are way off, they could look at trading him this weekend.

Teams asking about Hurricanes blue line

Frank Seravalli: The Hurricanes are getting calls from teams about both their left- and right-handed defensemen.

Teams are asking about Brett Pesce but the Hurricanes don’t want to move him.

GM Don Waddell is in a good position heading into the draft.

Bruins GM on some of their free agents

Pierre LeBrun: Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney is expected to meet with Marcus Johansson‘s agent in the next few days. Sweeney will need to know what the salary cap is going to be before they start talking numbers.

Matt Kalman: Bruins GM Sweeney on restricted free agents Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, and Danton Heinen: “Those guys will be playing for the Boston Bruins at some point in time next year, it’s just a matter of when we find common ground.”
