On the salary cap, Vegas Golden Knights, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes …

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: If the NHL doesn’t go to the Olympics next year, they could use that time for their bye week, which makes sense because of TV ratings.

The salary cap could increase if the players use the escalator. The players usually say they don’t want use it, but each year they agree to it as pending free agents need teams to their the extra space.

The Vegas Golden Knights could try to signing KHL veterans Evgeny Dadonov and Vadim Shipachyov.

The Pittsburgh Penguins looked at forward Jannik Hansen before the Canucks traded him to the Sharks. The Los Angeles Kings also looked at Hansen, but they would have needed the Vancouver Canucks to retain salary, and they didn’t want to up the ante on the draft pick conditions. The fourth round pick the Sharks gave up could be a first if they win the cup.

Eight or nine teams made legit offers for Alexandre Burrows, but only the Ottawa Senators offered up the contract extension.

Henrik Sedin met with GM Jim Benning and president Trevor Linden about his future and Daniel’s.

“We have not talked about beyond next season at all. If they want to talk to us about it this summer — or whenever they want to discuss it — we will be ready. But we haven’t talked about it yet.”

Once the Canucks are officially eliminated from the playoffs, defenseman Chris Tanev could be shutdown. Same will likely happen to Patrick Sharp.

From intel gathered, nobody was close to trading for Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog. Someone may have offered the Colorado Avalanche three or four pieces in a deal, but it wasn’t enough.

The Carolina Hurricanes will look to trade goaltender Eddie Lack this offseason. He isn’t a great fit with the Hurricanes aggressive goaltending style. Lack has a year left on his contract.
