Hurricanes and Aho talking extension
Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Forward Sabastian Aho said that contract extension negotiations have started between his agent Gerry Johansson and the Carolina Hurricanes.
“We’ve been talking about something,” Aho said at the NHL European Player Media Tour. “But I’ve got nothing to say yet.”
Aho will be a restricted free agent after the season and his hopeful for a long-term deal.
On if he thinks an extension will be done before the start of training camp.
“It’s tough to say,” he said. “I’m sure they’re working on it and we’ll see what happens.”
Maple Leafs have started contract talks with Nylander, Marner and Matthews
Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com: Toronto Maple Leafs restricted free agent forward William Nylander said that contract talks have started, but there is no urgency to get a deal done yet.
“Now that contract negotiations have started you’re more aware of what’s going on with things like that,” Nylander said Thursday during the NHL European Player Media Tour. “Right now, once something like that happens, you’re more updated on what’s going on around the League, more educated. But once you sign, I don’t think you pay attention to that.
“There is no extra pressure or urgency to get something done just because guys like sign.”
Nylander added that GM Kyle Dubas wanted to take things slowly, and they’re okay with that from his side of thing. The sides are going back and forth, and they know it could take a while.
Both Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews are eligible to sign a contract extension, and negotiations have started.
GM Dubas wants to get all three signed long-term. Nylander is hopeful that it will happen, but wonders it can be done in a cap system and after they signed John Tavares to the big deal.
