Ferland could be on the move

TSN: Pierre LeBrun: Micheal Ferland is available, but it doesn’t mean that the Carolina Hurricanes will trade him. He’s a pending UFA and the Hurricanes don’t want to lose him for nothing. They will likely sign him or trade him before the deadline. The two sides haven’t spoken in over a month.

Bruins could be interested in Schenn

TSN: Pierre LeBrun notes that the St. Louis Blues will likely be sellers at the trade deadline and that the Boston Bruins could be interested in forward Brayden Schenn.

“Former Flyer Brayden Schenn is drawing interest around the league,” LeBrun said on Insider Trading. “That’s not surprising because as we’ve told you, the St. Louis Blues are in full listening mode. They’re unhappy with how their season has gone and general manager Doug Armstrong has not put a lot of untouchables on his roster. Obviously all the kids are untouchable but he is listening on a lot of his core guys. Schenn is one of them.

“Now Armstrong doesn’t have to make that kind of move before the Feb. 25 deadline, these are some moves that can be done in the summer. But teams, notably a team like the Boston Bruins, are keeping an eye on a guy like Schenn.”

Canadiens open for business

TSN: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 talking about the Montreal Canadiens and how they will be looking to improve and are open for business, but they do have players they won’t be trading. They will keep their young core and look to continue to develop their assets.

“Status quo isn’t a bad thing as long as you maintain the development attitude of the Montreal Canadiens, but don’t confuse that with a lack of interest in getting better.

If there is opportunity, if there’s a player that is maybe going to inject a little bit more offence, you know clearly that they’d like to add a bit more experience I suppose or transition on their blueline, well then he’s going to listen and probably pull the trigger if it makes sense.

I think he was being very, very honest and up front there saying that they’re not going to make a trade that’s going to cost them long term when looking at some of their young roster players or prospects.”
