NHL Rumors: Hurricanes, Canucks, Predators, and Rangers

The New York Rangers should move Kevin Hayes sooner than later if they don't plan on re-signing him.

Hurricanes not deciding on goaltenders yet

Chip Alexander: Carolina Hurricanes GM Don Waddell said they haven’t made any decision yet on their three goaltender situation – Scott Darling, Petr Mrazek, and Curtis McElhinney: “We’re just going to play it by ear and let things sort out as we continue to move forward.”

Canucks should move Edler

Rick Dhaliwal: Corey Hirsch on the Vancouver Canucks defense: “You need to move Edler and get something for him although, he can say no. I think Tanev will stay for the start of the Quinn Hughes era so it will be interesting what they do.”

Looking like Tolvanen will be staying

Paul Skrbina of The Tennessean: Nashville Predators prospect Eeli Tolvanen has a clause in the contract that allows him to return to the KHL if he wants after he’s played in 10 AHL games. The Milwaukee Admirals played their 10th game over the weekend, but it’s looking like it won’t be Tolvanen’s last.

“Probably not going to do it,” Tolvanen told the Tennessean via phone on Monday morning. “So much closer to Nashville here.”

If Tolvanen were to head back to the KHL he wouldn’t be eligible to return to the NHL until after the KHL season.

Time for the Rangers to start making some moves

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: believes the Rangers should start moving out any pending free agents that they don’t plan on extending sooner than later.

Three of their bigger pending free agents include forwards Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes, and defenseman Adam McQuaid.

The Rangers should be aggressively shopping Hayes as they are likely not going to be re-signing him. There may be more teams interested in him now than at the deadline, and they may be able to work out a player-for-player deal.

If the Rangers know already that Zuccarello won’t be with them after the trade deadline, they should shop him now too.
