NHL Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes, and the Winnipeg Jets

No hurry for Aho and Teravainen ...

Luke DeCock: The Carolina Hurricanes and Sebastian Aho‘s agent have spoken about a potential long-term contract extension, but there is no rush to get it done. Same for Teuvo Teravainen. It may be best for both sides to see how the season starts for them.

The Jets are working to get two of their pending RFAs locked up …

Elliotte Friedman: For their Friday arbitration hearing, the Winnipeg Jets filed for $4 million, with defenseman Jacob Trouba asking for $7 million.

Scott Billeck: “It will be interesting to see how arbitration affects the relationship between both sides going forward. Trouba is two years away from being a UFA. Likely to get a one-year deal in arbitration, if it gets there, which is looking increasingly likely.”

Scott Billeck of NBC Sports: If they get to arbitration, the Jets can decide on whether it to be a one- or two-year deal. The Jets would likely go with one-year as he’s two years away from being a UFAs.

A one-year deal would likely come in around $5 to $5.5 million.

Both the Jets and Trouba have said they’d like to do a long-term deal.

Comparables could be Seth Jones (six years at $5.4 million per), Colton Parayko (five years at $5.5 million per) and Roman Josi (seven years at $4 million per).

Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey is deciding on whether to go with a bridge deal or a long-term deal. Morrissey doesn’t have arbitration rights.

This past season Morrissey set career highs with seven goals, 19 assists, and 26 points.

Morrissey may be better off with a two-year deal worth $3 to $3.5 million per as opposed to a deal in seven-year deal at $4 million per like Roman did back in 2013.

If Morrisey went the bridge route, his next deal could be at $5 million-plus.
