  • Scott Cruickshank of The Calgary Herald: The Flames have re-signed goaltender Joni Ortio to a new two-year deal, and Cruichskank says to expect RFA’s Lance Bouma and Mark Cundari to be signed in the next few days.

“We really think a lot of Joni,” said Treliving. “This is a young player who took a real big step forward last year.”

  • Jason Botchford of The Province: One of Vancouver’s two first round picks in this year’s draft, Jarred McCann is out to do anything to show he belongs in the NHL. McCann has vowed that his opponents are going to hate him as well.

“I don’t want to be pushed around. If someone is going to stick me, I’m going to give it back.”

“I’ve always had a spur in my game. I’m not afraid to do what it takes. It’s the type of game I play and that’s what I’m good at.”

  • Joe Smith: Ben Bishop says that his rehab is going well and that everything should be fine by the time Tampa Bay’s camp comes around.
  • Bruce Garrioch: The Ottawa Senators and RFA goaltender Robin Lehner are closing in on a deal. The two sides have agreed on the term, but not the money as of yet.

“We’re extremely close,” said Pierre Dorion on signing Robin Lehner. “We said we’d give it a week break so that’s what we’ve done.”

  • Bruce Garrioch: Senators GM Bryan Murray will meet with Clarke MacArthur‘s and Bobby Ryan‘s Newport agents sometime next week, trying to work out contract extensions for the upcoming UFA’s. Sen’s have also held talks with Mark Methot‘s agent Larry Kelly about a new deal.
