- Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: With Canucks signing Ryan Miller, it’s believed that Jacob Markstrom has asked for a trade if they can.
“That situation could work itself out over the summer,” Benning said. “The teams that are interested may have to move out another guy.
“We’re exploring that for Jacob. But if that doesn’t happen, Jacob comes to camp. He has a good attitude. He understands the situation.
“Look at Minnesota last year. They went through about five goalies.”
- Helene St. James: As the Red Wings continue to look for a right-handed defenseman, they could look at Sabres Tyler Myers. He carries a $5.5 million salary cap hit. The asking price for Myers would start with one of Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar or Tomas Jurco. The Sabres might ask for Anthony Mantha, but he’s not going anywhere. The Red Wings would also likely need to add a high draft pick and potentially another player.
- Josh Cooper of the Tennessean: With the Senators signing David Legwand, it eliminates one of the Flyers trading partners for Vincent Lecavalier. It could give the Predators a bit of leverage and power in negotiations. The Preds may be the only team interested, so they may not have to rush into a deal.
- George Richards: (answering question) Hasn’t heard any talk of Panthers trades coming.
