NHL Rumors II: Boyle, Iginla, Selanne, Wild and Laich

  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: The Sharks only offered defenseman Dan Boyle a one-year deal. He was looking for a two-year deal. Contract talks didn’t progress any further.

“Even though I was kind of expecting it a little bit, yeah, it was devastating,” Boyle said on Friday. “I was clear that I wanted to be back here and I loved it here. It can still be pretty tough news to take, but when you lose like we did, you figure that changes are going to be made. Part of me thought this could happen.”

Boyle has been getting text messages from players around the league to come join their team.

“I’m obviously crushed and hurt with what’s happened, but I’m a competitor. I want to win the Stanley Cup. That’s what I’m excited about. I’m looking forward to the next opportunity.”

  • Nicholas Goss: Bruins Jarome Iginla: “I Hope To Be Able To Come Back” to the Bruins.
  • Eric Duhatschek: Ducks Teemu Selanne on the option to play in the KHL next year: ‘‘To be honest, I don’t have to play anymore. I could if I want, but right now, I don’t want.”
  • Chad Graff: Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said that he wants to preserve their cap space so that they are able to re-sign their young players in the upcoming years.
  • Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: The Capitals will have to decide this whether to use a compliance buyout on Brooks Laich or not. If bought out, Laich would get $8.33 million over the next six year. He carries a $4.5 million salary cap hit. Laich would need to pass physical before they would be able to guy him out.
