- Larry Fisher of the Kelowna Daily Courier: Former Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman Josh Gorges is slowly moving on from the shock that came with Montreal trading him and adjusting to his new life in Buffalo.
“I would’ve loved to stay and try to achieve my ultimate goal in Montreal and win a Stanley Cup there, but that wasn’t meant to be,” Gorges said. “Whatever the reasons, that’s not our job as players to figure out.
“At the end of the day, you live with the decisions that are made above you. We understand that’s the business we’re involved in.”
“Talking with the guys in Buffalo, the management and ownership and some players, that’s our next challenge, is to try to grow a team that can win a championship in Buffalo. That’s where my mindset is, that’s where my head is at.”
- Gary Lawless: Lawless believes that Winnipeg may be close to re-signing RFA Michael Frolik, as his agent, Larry Walsh, has “gone dark” on Twitter.
- Mike Halford of NBC Sports: With the Ryan O’Reilly contract saga (part 2) over, the Avalanche now turn their attention to RFA Tyson Barrie, who lead the team in goals by a defenseman (13) last season.
“I’m very confident we’ll get something done with Tyson,” Sakic said.
- Mike Halford of NBC Sports: Detroit has come to an agreement with RFA Landon Ferraro, son of long-time NHL’er and TSN broadcaster Ray Ferraro, on a one-year deal.
